Second-Year Student Fires Gun at Adventist Senior High School, Injuring Two

A second-year student at Adventist Senior High School in Kumasi fired gunshots at his classmates on Friday, leaving two students in critical but stable condition at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in the Ashanti Regional capital.
The suspect, Bernard Amoabeng, was taken into custody by the Ghana Police Service at Suame after school authorities reported the incident to law enforcement. Witnesses say the shooting occurred during break time when Amoabeng brought a firearm to school. According to sources, an argument broke out among the students over whether the weapon was functional. In an attempt to prove its functionality, Amoabeng allegedly fired the gun, accidentally injuring Suzzy Pinamang in the face and another student.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into the incident. A statement issued by the police on Saturday confirmed, “The Ashanti Regional Police Command has initiated an investigation into a shooting incident that occurred at Adventist Senior High School on Friday, April 4th, 2025, at about 12:00 PM.” The statement further noted that, “The injured students have since been treated at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and are currently in stable condition.”

The press release also confirmed that the juvenile suspect has been arrested, and the empty cartridge has been recovered and retained as evidence.
