Resurgent Black Stars Rise in Latest FIFA Rankings After Strong Start to 2025

Ghana’s senior men’s national team, the Black Stars, have made progress in the latest FIFA rankings, marking their first upward movement since July 2024.
In the updated rankings, the Black Stars now sit at 76th place globally, climbing one spot from 77th, where they had remained since November 2024.
Winning Start to 2025 Fuels Progress
This improvement follows Ghana’s strong performance in the 2025 international calendar, where they secured consecutive victories in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. The Black Stars triumphed over Chad and Madagascar, achieving their first wins since defeating the Central African Republic in June 2024. These results moved them ahead of Israel, who dropped two places in the rankings.
No Change in Africa Ranking
Despite their global rise, Ghana’s position in Africa remains unchanged. The Black Stars continue to rank 14th on the continent, aiming to climb higher under head coach Otto Addo. With key fixtures lined up later this year, Addo and his squad will be focused on further improvement in both global and continental standings.
Global FIFA Ranking Highlights
The latest FIFA rankings saw Argentina solidify their hold on the top spot, following their qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and an impressive 4-1 victory over Brazil. Spain has moved into second place, overtaking France, while Portugal slipped below the Netherlands. Germany has also closed the gap on Italy after securing back- to-back wins.
In North America, Mexico’s Nations League triumph boosted them to 17th place, just behind the USA, while Canada climbed to a record-high 30th position. Meanwhile, Myanmar recorded the most significant jump, rising seven places to 162nd.
As FIFA World Cup qualification continues, Ghana is determined to sustain their resurgence and push for higher rankings in the coming months.
